ABOUT THE TEAM

  • AVIVA ARMOUR-OSTROFF - DIRECTOR/DRAMATURG

    Aviva works as an actor, director, writer, dramaturge and producer. 

    Aviva has been developing new Canadian work for over twenty years, most significantly by founding The Lab Cab Festival, a multi-disciplinary arts festival which she ran for thirteen years in Toronto. 

    Most recently, Aviva appeared as an actor at Persephone Theatre, and as a director of Dear Robert for VideoCabaret in Toronto.

    Aviva is the co-director of the film adaptation of The Drawer Boy. She wrote, co-directed, and starred in the feature film, Lune, which gained her a Canadian Screen Award nomination for her performance, and honoured her as the first Canadian to win The Micki Moore Award for Best Feature at TJFF. @lunethefilm 

  • REBECCA AUERBACH - PLAYWRIGHT/PERFORMER

    Rebecca Auerbach is an award-winning actor, writer, and musician working across theatre, film, TV, and audio. Originally from Vancouver and now based in Toronto, she’s been performing coast to coast for over 20 years.

    As a playwright, she co-created The Pigeon King (Blyth/NAC) and is developing The Wilder Sisters (Blyth Festival). Her solo show Discount Dave and The Fix won the 2024 Cayle Chernin Award. On stage, she’s a Jessie Award winner and Dora nominee.

    Rebecca also plays in the folk/roots/country band Regal Road and spends her days roaming the city with her soulful German Shepherd, Archer. 

  • DIANA BENTLEY - ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

    Diana is a Dora Award winning producer, actor, director and writer and the co-founder and former Artistic Director of Coal Mine Theatre. She’s a graduate of UofT, LAMDA and the CFC Actors' Conservatory. She is a director (People, Places & Things, Yerma) and takes the stage regularly (most recently she starred in the Coal Mine’s production of Hedda Gabler). She has performed in many tv shows and films such as Handmaid’s Tale, Sort Of, Departure, Frontier, Locke and Key, Cabinet of Curiosities and The Expanse to name just a few. She is also the recipient of an Equity Award of Distinction. Diana is the proud mother of Henry, step-mother of Rosie and Theo Dykstra and partner of Ted.

  • ANTHONY GONCHAROV - PRODUCER

    Anthony is an Associate Producer at Coal Mine Theatre, Artistic Director of Icarus Theatre, and a Founding Associate of The Vault Creation Lab. He has produced critically-acclaimed indie productions of both new and existing works including: Constellations, Fiji (new work), and Lobby Hero, as well as workshops of Toronto, 1989 and Skylark: A New Musical with his company, Icarus Theatre. He also produces and hosts the monthly Dark Day Cabaret Series, which has been running monthly in Toronto for 2 years. As an actor and director, he has played a part in numerous productions both in Ontario, and in his home province of BC. In his spare time, he enjoys Muay Thai, rock climbing, and metal. Thanks to Emily and Erik, Diana and Charlotte.

  • COOPER HIEBERT - STAGE MANAGER/PRODUCTION MANAGER

    Cooper (He/Him) is a performer, designer, technician, and creative currently based in Tkaronto the land of many Indigenous nations. After being introduced to theatre in High School, Cooper has wanted to be a part of the community in anyway possible. He adores meeting new people and working with such creative minds. As a Technician he’s recently worked on: Coal Mine Theatre’s 2024/25 Season, Step Right Up…Disability Theatre Symposium (CHAS), and Come From Away (North American Tour), as a Stage Manager: Infinity Gardens (GutPunch Theatre/VIctoria Fringe), Pride and Prejudice (CCPA), Gorgo (Puente Theatre), and as a Designer: Secret Saloon (Cowboy Improv), The Quest (CCPA). Thanks for coming to the show, give kindness and empathy in all you do!

  • STEVE LUCAS - SET AND LIGHTING DESIGNER

    Steve Lucas is an award-winning set and lighting designer and mentor. With a career spanning decades, Steve has designed over 500 productions across 27 countries, including premieres of celebrated works like 2 Pianos 4 Hands, The Drawer Boy, and The Drowsy Chaperone. Known for his innovative and diverse style, Steve has collaborated with leading theatre companies such as Obsidian, Canadian Stage, and the Stratford, Shaw and Blyth Festivals. Steve has received numerous awards, including five Dora Awards for his set and lighting designs. He has been nominated for awards such as the Siminovitch Prize, a Sterling Award, and 36 Doras. He is delighted to be back in the Coal Mine!

  • ERIK RICHARDS - SOUND DESIGNER

    Erik Richards (he/him) is a Sound Designer, Production Manager and Theatre Maker from Treaty Six. Selected work includes, Brother Rat, Talk Treaty to Me (ReadyGo); Infinite Life, DION: A Rock Opera, People, Places and Things (Coal Mine Theatre); The Pillowman, Dead in the Water (TheatreYES); La Bete, Boy Falls From the Sky (Talk is Free). Erik's practice explores the intersection between theatre, and music, through multimedia elements and live performance. Erik sends his heart back home to his family, and wife Frances who have been incredible as he continues his time out east.
